AIA / ALA Library Building Award
We’re thrilled to share Liberty Park Library has won an AIA / ALA Library Building Award!
The prestigious joint AIA and American Library Association national award program specifically honors the best in library architecture and design, the only award that recognizes entire library structures and all aspects of their design. Winners demonstrate design achievement, including a sense of place and purpose, of ecology and environmental sustainability, and of history. Entries are also required to address all 10 categories of the AIA Framework for Design Excellence. Five libraries were awarded this year.
Liberty Park is all about place and context, providing a vibrant community hub helping to revitalize a historically significant but neglected Olmstead designed park on the outskirts of Spokane, WA. Inspired by traditional park picnic shelters, the library presents a simple structural characterized by a dramatic roof overhang and walls of glass that give patrons light and a sense of sitting among the trees.
