Aspiration & Achievement

Create a vibrant heart of campus for a century-old university while retaining historic integrity.

Linking a large, four-story 1970s era student union building and a group of small, one-story historic structures, this two-story recreation building transforms the heart of a century-old university into a center of campus life and community. Efficient building planning reduced an initial larger footprint to better align with adjacent buildings, improve circulation and preserve views. Clerestory windows and vertical sunscreens provide controlled daylighting throughout. Along with photovoltaic panels and natural ventilation, this bright, open building is designed for energy efficiency and cost savings.
