PROJECT DETAILS
Located at the edge of the Rathdrum Prairie, the Post Falls Operations Center reimagines municipal infrastructure as a cohesive civic asset. The project consolidates previously dispersed Public Works, Streets, and Fleet Maintenance departments into a unified, high-performance facility designed to support operational efficiency and future growth.
The architecture is grounded in its rugged context, drawing inspiration from the surrounding agrarian landscape and structures. A protective skin of weathering steel forms a resilient outer layer suited to heavy industrial use and seasonal extremes. This exterior is carefully carved to reveal a warm, daylit interior where wood and glass create a human-scale experience and soften the boundary between warehouse and workplace.
Organized around the demands of fleet operations, the facility establishes an efficient circulation loop with direct highway access. Maintenance bays, equipment storage, and service areas are integrated with administrative offices to support daily workflows. Shared spaces, including a central mudroom, encourage interaction between field crews and staff and reinforce a culture of collaboration.
Uncommon for a facility of this type, the building is oriented toward a public plaza and community room, extending its function beyond operations to civic engagement. Native, low-water landscaping anchors the site within the prairie ecosystem while managing stormwater and reducing maintenance.
