Aspiration & Achievement

Enlarging and updating this 1960’s era riverfront hotel freshens the guest experience and extends the ability to host larger group events in a prime natural location.

PROJECT DETAILS

An expansion update revisits the landmark 1960’s era hotel design by YGH founding partner Joachim Grube. With panoramic river views, water access and private beach, the hotel celebrates northwest regional style with exposed concrete structures supporting simple, heavy timber rooflines that evoke nearby mountains in the Cascade Range. Lifecycle analysis dictated the choice of resilient flooring options for long term efficiency.

Designed to frame the magnificent scenery, the hotel inventively offers protection from the changing winds and intense temperature variations in the Columbia River Gorge. It is a popular place for a casual lunch overlooking the river, weekend water sports getaway or for groups seeking an inspiring meeting setting.

Renovation and expansion scope updates the master plan, maintains the simple grandeur of the existing conference center with additional meeting spaces and redesign elements that complement original design typology with a contemporary flair.
