PROJECT DETAILS

The Grant PUD Ephrata Service Center is a purpose-built facility designed to support reliable operations today while positioning the utility for long-term growth. The project balances efficiency, durability, and regional identity to create a workplace that strengthens operations and community connection.

Developed through a progressive design-build process, the team partnered closely with Grant PUD to organize the site for clarity, safety, and performance. Circulation separates public, employee, and service functions while optimizing operational flow. Program elements including administration, dispatch, maintenance and fabrication shops, testing labs, warehouse, and covered vehicle storage support daily workflows and long-term adaptability.

The building’s massing and orientation respond to its prominent highway location, creating a strong yet approachable presence. Primary entry and public-facing spaces are organized along the west edge, including an all-hands meeting space that anticipates future adjacent development.

Architecturally, the design draws from the agricultural vernacular of the region. Simple, horizontal forms and durable materials express the building’s function while reinforcing a connection to the expansive Ephrata landscape.

Designed for longevity and performance, the facility features an enhanced building envelope that exceeds Washington State Energy Code requirements, improving efficiency and reducing thermal transfer. Renewable energy credits offset the building’s electricity use through off-site generation, supporting a pragmatic approach to long-term sustainability. The result is a safe, efficient, and adaptable service center that supports mission-critical operations and reflects Grant PUD’s commitment to the communities it serves. This project was designed in partnership with HZ Architects.
