Aspiration & Achievement

Stepping in after three design teams failed to develop viable solutions, this dynamic space provides an engaging backdrop to foster goodwill and deepen mutual understanding.

PROJECT DETAILS

The American Cultural Center is a diplomatic building for engaging with Burmese citizens. The dynamic space encourages open dialogue and collaboration through an array of cultural and educational programs to instill goodwill and deepen mutual understanding. Activities include internet access, library resources, English language classes, civic education programs and youth clubs.

This opportunity came as a direct request from the Department of State, after several design firms failed to meet budget, efficiency, and timeline constraints. Designed to meet LEED Gold requirements, regional materials are used throughout to maintain a connection with local culture and context. Elegant filigree screens allow sunlight to filter deep into the building while also ensuring a secure facility.

The building is a popular gathering space reflecting indigenous craft and fostering connections between cultures.
