In this article titled ‘Designing Schools for Socialization’ in Learning by Design Magazine, Principal Rebecca Baibak and Associate Principal Loretta Sachs as part of the AIA Committee on Architecture for Education Knowledge Community Series, highlights how socialization is both a basic human need and is foundational to the success of student development and learning.

Brain science tells us that we learn best through in-person, face-to-face social interaction. As we continue to create and evolve spaces for learning and spaces for community, we must remember that they are one and the same. Deep learning is fostered through our interaction and connection with one another, and our desire to be connected, in-person, is at the essence of our humanity. Our schools should reflect that.
