With great excitement we announce that The Hive, in Spokane, Washington, is recognized globally with a Special Mention in the 2024 ULI Americas Award for Excellence program!

ULI is a leading international urban design and placemaking organization supporting equitable and sustainable land use development. Award winners represent the highest standards of achievement in civic master planning and placemaking developments in urban communities in North and South America.

Emerging from a unique partnership between Spokane Public Library, City of Spokane, and Spokane Public Schools, The Hive is a non-traditional library centered around arts education where instead of books, users can ‘check out’ a variety of spaces – meeting, training and artist maker spaces. The Hive’s bright façade and effective use of simple materials provides a welcoming place for an underserved area and draws people from throughout the city for gathering and creating.

Showcasing the transformative power of collaboration, shared resources, and design rooted in a distinct sense of place, The Hive is recognized for the positive social change it brings to its industrial neighborhood.
